In my experience it is untreatable because in most instances baldness in young males is genetically trigerred. However, when there is a case of alopecia due to a disease or as a symptom of any of the Zangfu malfunctioning, it is usually treatable with success. This issue is very common in young females nonetheless. It is occurring frequently as a result of the contraceptive pill side effects (usually diminishing of Ki. chi), other hormonal treatments and more.
In any event, one must determine a proper diagnosis a priori of any treatment. Having that established in order to amend the cause which brought about the baldness (and probably also other symptoms), here is a set of points that can be included in the formula:
B-17/ B-16 to tonify blood and move it up to the head region (a function B-16 is used for in an upward direction manipulation), Du-14/ B-10 to activate yang movement in upward direction, Du-20 and the surrounding Sishencong as a local invigorating of superficial Qi on the top of the head. Also Du-21/ 22 bring yang and yin (respectively) to the head (see here as well: http://www.acumedico.com/acupoints.htm#Dumai ). In clear case of yang failing to push blood up to the head surface, moxa is indicated on the relevant points, especially Du-20/ 21

I would also add to the above message, that herbal treatments for alopecia are usually also very effective. This may be done in conjunction with, or without, the above mentioned acupuncture treatment.

Thank you. Can also massage therapy or shiatzu help for this?

Shiatsu or Qigong massage therapy may help in minor hair loss cases, but will probably not help in cases of alopecia distinguished by a marked hair loss.

When I was in acupuncture school one of the students had dramatically
thinning hair in normal male pattern balding. His wife (also in school)
treated him with a protocol that she found and within 6 months his hair had
dramatically increased in volume. I am not saying this will work for
alopecia but is just meant to offer that there are treatments out there for
increasing hair growth. I don't remember what this was (if I ever knew the
whole thing) but part of it was running long thin needles under the scalp
from the hairline back.

Sorry Phil, that was a long time ago and we are no longer in contact with
each other. I also seem to remember that the needles were spaced 1/2" apart
along the hairline. It would make sense because of the stimulation to the
area closer to the hair follicles.

PS: memory....phosphatidyl serine seems to do it for me!
