Shalom to you as well. AVN (Avascular Necrosis) is very difficult to treat when the disease is in advanced stage. However, at the initial stage it may be stopped and even cured. The recommended treatment is by acupuncture, and very intense treatment schedule. This treatment may be supplemented by herbal treatment. If this is possible for the patient to come and see me, I'll gladly examine him/her. I would need in this case a recent CT scan or other imaging device results.

G'day there I have just recently been diagonized with AVN of the Talar Dome - I saw my Ortho Doc and he has suggested an MRI Scan followed most probably by an ankle fusion. What do you think?

Kind Regards
Carol Victoria Australia

What I think Carol, is exactly what I have said above. AVN may have very good results by acupuncture and even a cure. The treatment must be commenced at the initial stage of the disease and if not the chances of a complete cure decrease.

Sorry to hear about your condition Dharmesh. I suppose that a skilled acupuncturist may be able to relieve your suffering and alleviate the pain. I am unfortunately less optimistic about your chance of recovery after the procedures you have undergone. My best wishes to you.

Dear ((((((((((((((Shmeul))))))))))))))),

Have emailed u already, but also wanted to post this on the forum

Hi ((((((((((((Everyone))))))))))))),
I have just sent private emails to those showing on this forum. However, thought perhaps there were others lurking who may be able to give some insight or could suggest another forum where i could get information. My name is Elaine and i live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Read your email on the AcuMedico Forum. I too have been diagnosed with AVN (Avascular Necrosis) with
lesions in both the right and left leg Tibia, 9.5 cm and 10.5cm. I did a search on the internet and found
an article in relation to my condition.

Avascular necrosis in long-term survivors after allogeneic or autologous stem cell transplantation: a single center experience and a review.BACKGROUND: The most debilitating skeletal complication of stem cell transplantation (SCT) is avascular necrosis (AVN).from Cancer - May 2003 - Libuse Tauchmanovą, Gennaro De Rosa, Bianca Serio, et. al.

I am in remission from Cancer after heaps of Chemo and a Bone Marrow Transplant in 1993. However, i had/have been experiencing horrendous pain in the spine and the legs and after three years of suffering, my ability to walk is deteriorating. Recent MRI's and an a group of 40 Specialist Doctors at a conference i was asked to attend have disgnosed AVN. Please would anyone be able to give me insight into this condition?
I would be extremely grateful if u could contact me. My email address is lizral@ozemail.com.au

Kind Regards,
Love & Hugs
Elaine

I am more familiar with aseptic joint necrosis as a result of long term scuba diving, than from any other cause.
Unfortunately the main thing in these instances, particularly in the early stages, is to reduce load bearing on the affected joints / bones, which can be quite difficult for young people in particular. Acupuncture is wonderful for pain relief, however, if the pain is relieved with acupuncture, the patient needs to understand that they still need to reduce weight on the affected part, even if this means a regimen of bed rest. In the early stages this can allow for regeneration of the bone to a certain extent.
In the case of the person who has already had core decompression of the hips, and is looking at having a possible hip replacement, it is worth bearing in mind that pain and dysfunction of the joint will occure for a long time after the procedure, and if you only had the procedure in jan. 2006, then it is my understanding that you should expect to use crutches to reduce weight for 6-12 months before you can start to really have improvement.
As for prognosis with acupuncture treatment for AVN in a more advanced stage, I dont really know.
Regards,
Lea.
