May i introduce myself ? I am tsultrim and my hobby is TCM for many years. Now i am intended to make a professional job out of it,by taking a discource.

The case:

I met recently a 40 years old man who is suffering from chronical pancreatitisdue to alcohol abuse.

I looked in my database and found the receipt:

Dan shen yin and Chai hu gui zhi tang.

But about the treatment with needles i found nothing special.

Can You please explain the role of the pancreas in TCM and the cures / treatments for the chronical pancreatitis.

Further am i interested in all TCM receipts and other points of view concerning the above mentioned illness.

In advance thanks a lot for your attention

Dear Tsultrim,
As a rule, you must realize that there is no such thing in TCM as pancreatitis. This is a modern medicine concept and can not be treated as such by means of traditional acupuncture. You must define the problem in energetic terms in order to treat the problem with TCM tools - whether herbs or needles.
Even in simple tonsillitis, there may be a pattern of damp-heat, or a pattern of wind-cold, or even a pattern of blood stasis. Let alone, more complex conditions such as pancreatitis or other internal diseases.
As for acupuncture, there are many points that will affect the pancreas, especially those situated in its vicinity. Other points, such as the spleen shu and mu points are also effective in the treatment of various spleen/pancreas conditions. Yet, a mere collection of effective points will not cure the condition called pancreatitis. As explained above, the practitioner must come to a diagnostic conclusion in terms of TCM energetic patterns and only then, a workable treatment formula can be devised. Not only can a formula of points be devised, but also the way to handle the needles, i.e., type of manipulating them, the treatment duration, rhythm, order of needling, frequency of treatments and many other facets of the whole treatment.
