Hello!
I would like some more information on this subject.
I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and just wish for a healthy child, regardless of the gender. However, I have a friend that is studying Chinese Medicine and he performed a "trick" to try and discover the baby's gender: He took both my pulses and affered them simultaneously, to see which had the strongest beat. He then explained that my left pulse (Yin) was stronger than my right one (Yang) and that it would probably be a boy, because the mother's pulse usually gets stronger on the opposite side of the baby's gender.
However I found 2 articles online that say the opposite: that the child is of the gender of the pulse that is stronger.
Is this all nonsense or are there studies or statistics that corroborate it?

Thank you!

I don't know of any studies or statistics that may shed light on this peculiar subject... In any event, a practitioner that tries to play this trick (which is based on folklore rather than medicine) has a 50% chance to be right (or wrong...) I suggest that when you have a definite confirmation for your baby's gender, you come back to us and let us know. This way, we'll be able to establish once and for all, which of the two streams is right (or wrong)...
Have a pleasant pregnancy.

No studies or statistics that I know of. I have been asked to sex foetuses on a number of occaisions during my 20 or so years of practice. No problem. The pulses I found, both radial and medial tibial (ankle), to be reliable. The easisest is to ask what the maternal food cravings are. Girl = yin foods, Boy = Yang foods. Also boys are more active and tend to give mum more morning sickness. This shouldn't be taken seriously I do know that if a family wanted a particular sex they would start on the appropriate diet about a year before conception. From memory Henry Liu published this information in the west in his chinese medical encyclopedia of treatment. No it is not all a porcine lave but let's not get too hung up over this.

I would like to say this - It takes a lot to impress me but Shmuel has - his training shows a profound understanding of fundamental principle traditional acupuncture. There is no element of the self serving, comercial clap trap which seeds error, in his approach to the traditional truths.

I hope you enjoyed my previous post but I notice that you expressed a desire to "just wish for a healthy child". OK! In my career closer to 40 years BTW the greatest joy is working with pregnant women. Do the obvious - No smoking no alcohol and no sex because male spermatorrhoea on the cervix can bring about premature uterine contractions. It is good to keep a dream journal to help with meeting the spirit of your child sexing, naming, life path choices can all be assisted using this technique. In Australia we have specialist maternal/child care nurses that are an absolute mine of information. I assume you to have a physician who knows the tone of your uterus and the condition of your baby. Fitness is a great asset but do not engage in heavy exercise. Running is OUT! Pre and peri natal yoga is highly recommended. Someone who can asses your and your babe's nutritional status especially teeth and bone is a real bonus.

Enough said! I think you can gather the general picture and if you have specific queries feel free to post, I'm sure someone will proffer an excellent answer.
