I read somewhere about points used in the head for people that have had stokes. Can anyone advise on the locations etc.

You probably mean scalp acupuncture. It is a very common treatment technique in China for paralysis syndromes. I have found for you two links on the internet, but if you search for yourself, you'll probably find some more:
