Hi Shmuel,
As the spring has started to come, so has the allergy sensitive patients....
In china I was taught that allergy is wind invasion, and the treatment is to tonify wei qi, and release the exterior. Giovani says in his book that tonification of wei qi must include tonification of GV and Kidney.
However I feel that Liver is involved in allergies. Seems to me that the wind involved in allergy is also internal, some sort of liv.(?) yang rising together with wei qi xu .

So how do you treat acute allergy? The standard treatment of exterior conditions does not respond too well, sometimes with no efect at all. I don't think it is my needling technique, since in colds and flu's, (wind invasion), the treatment results are satisfaying.
thanks
B

The Chinese were right, Giovani is also right and you are right too
You must recall that spring time responds to wood element and the liver therefore plays a substantial role in the pathogenesis of hayfever. Also in W.M. the liver has much to do with the formation of anti-bodies, and the liver is absolutely hyper (energetic-wise) in spring. Still, you know me a little already, I do not recommend tonifying Wei Qi (either by herbs or by acupuncture) while the acute symptoms are on. Do that between the onset periods of the allergy, you have enough time to do that while your patient is off the symptoms, and preferably by herbs.
While the allergy is active, use:
G-20/ B-12 and Du-16 first, and then follow by:
Li-4/ 11/ 20/ B-2/ St-36 and Liv-2
Cupping on the upper back is also beneficial
and other points on the liver channel according to specific pathologies, if they exist.
Most often, it is necessary to treat daily, or every other day. There are quite a few cases where one course of treatment cures the hayfever for good. Otherwise, it will be necessary to repeat the treatment every year. Herbal treatment may be applied in conjunction with acupuncture, as well as other modalities such as sinus irrigation, steam therapy, etc.
