Good day! I would like to post this question, can acupuncture treat night blindness, or color blindness? Any explanation for these problems?

Yes, it can Pat, especially in children up to 18 years. Night blindness may be treated even in adults in some cases.
These problems are attributed in Ch. med. to liver dysfunction. We believe that the liver nourishes the eyes with blood and energy. Deficiency in Qi or blood in the liver, or a failing connection between the liver and the eyes, may lead to such problems. Thus, in Ch. Med, we stimulate the liver and also points that bind the connection between these organs.

Can lab tests show such problems in the liver? If lab tests don't show liver problems would you treat the liver anyway?

When I was a student in acupuncture I worked with a chinese acupuncturist. He treated nightblindness using only points on the bladder meridian.(back) If I can remember he used the lot. He did cured nightblindness.

You are right Ina. Points on the Bl meridian are often utilized for this purpose. Especially so, Bl-17, 18 and 16 - but not only on the Bl.
As for your question Pat, Ch.Med has another understanding of liver pathologies than Wes. med. Therefore, many of the liver pathologies which are basically energetical deviations, will not show on lab tests which are chemically based. Therefore, if Ch.med. diagnosis can find out that something is wrong with the liver energetical system, then, yes, definitely we shall treat this problem according to this understanding.

Dear Ahmed, this is definitely a case to go and consult a qualified ophtalmologist. He/she will be able to diagnose you properly. As for treating night blindness with acupuncture please refer to the above correspondence.
