SLE responds quite well to acupuncture, especially when treating young adults with mild to moderate manifestation of the disease. The best approach, as I have found treating my SLE patients, is to regard it as a Bi syndrome, and differentiate it according to Bi etiologies and pathologies - in TCM.
First treat the dominant signs of pain and inflammation - the Biao. As the symptoms ameliorate, start treating the Ben - the cause of disease according to your TCM diagnosis.
