My son aged 32, autistic from birth suffers from sudden restlessness during waking hours which makes him continuously move his body in every possible way for hours together not minding the profuse sweating. These episodes appear at anytime and anywhere and he seems to have absolutely no control over his muscles. He bounces, bends, stretches, grimaces and never knows when or how to stop it. He is also unapproachable during these episodes and pushes away if anybody tried to stop him or in any way interfered. Psychiatrists are clueless. In India no good TCM doctors. It appears like some Liver stagnation and stirring of internal liver wind considering his autistic condition which may lead to lack of ability to express himself and the resulting frustration of his emotions. I would like to have your expert opinion on combination of acupuncture points and/or Chinese herbal medicine for his cure. He is suffering from this malaise for nearly a decade but for past two months the time and intensity has crossed all boundaries and very distressing. So please help.

It’s hard to say without doing a thorough review of his case and diagnosis, however this is an herbal remedy that sounds like you could try. The formula can be purchased through many different suppliers, I am sending you this link because they have a description of the formula and indications for it. Best wishes for your son….

There is not really enough information. However, you need a formula to address the excess Yangming Heat & sweating which has caused severe Fluid/Blood depletion affecting the muscle layer leading to the tremors & convulsions.
If you can get Chinese herbs Chai Hu jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang should help:
Chai Hu 12g
Huang Qin 10g
Ban Xia 15g
Dang Shen 10g
Gui Zhi 10g
Fu ling 12g
Long Gu 15g
Mu Li 15g
Da Huang 6g
Sheng Jiang 15g
Hong/Da zao 4 pieces

Needle LIV 14, PC8, KID1, Yintang

Thank you Ms.Jennifer and Mr.Kevin for your kind response. Before approaching this forum I had been searching various options. I came across a website 'Agelessherbs.com and imported a herbal supplement called Free and Easy Wanderar formula with following ingredients: chai hue, fang gui, bai shao, Elecampaine, nai ji zi, suan Mo cao, Bo he, xiao huxiong, zhi Shi, mu zu cao and Sheng Jiang. By comparing the list of herbs you have listed I couldn't come to any definite conclusion if they are same ornear substitute. However the vendor claimed that the combination will help clear liver wind stagnation and heat in blood. In the present condition of my son my option is restricted to herbs and not needles. Again for needling I have to approach an acupuncturist who are rare to come by. I myself am not adept with needles though I can locate the points. Now can you suggest if I can go ahead with this 'free and easy Wanderar' formula which I have just received?

"Pusses Away" with the circumstances you describe is a very strong symptom in 2 homoeopatic remedy pictures. Staphysagria and Chamomilla I have cut and pasted the 2 side by side. http://www.jan.000a.biz/PushAway/ You can decide which one is the appropriate one and give it with confidence. Get back to us because it does have implications as to which acupuncture command points to use.

It's better than nothing I suppose. It is a classic formula mainly for Liver Qi Stagnation, often used for Women with Pre mentrual syndrome, so will have an effect on blood (Dang gui/Bai shao), but not so much for your son's severe deficiency & sweating, which is the critical factor. (Long Gu/Mu Li are two of the most important herbs in the formula I posted).

Why don't you try & find a good Ayurvedic Herbalist instead? I think it would be better than this remote attempt by us to form an accurate diagnosis. Herbal medicine is very precise & needs all the relevant information taken by a practitioner in person.

Thank you Kevin. I mentioned about sweating only to highlight the intensity of his unusual movements. There is no spontaneous sweating or night sweats. Maybe some deficiency will develop if the activity is sustained for long. I believe this more about liver qi stagnation and internal wind. Zhen may be distributed by perhaps liver yin deficiency. For lack of other alternative I have already given him the herbal supplement 3 doses. Though no change in his body movements I noticed a tremendous improvement in his mood. As regards Ayurvedic treatment I have to rely totally on the word of the physician. The medicines are not labelled. There is no transparency. Still I have tried and got nowhere. Now I am pinning my hopes only on TCM.
