Hi there, I have a patient who always feels that there is "grit" in his eyes, although after WM examination, there is nothing apparant, I would normally treat this with herbal medicine, but the patient would prefer acupuncture. Does anybody have any suggestions on acupoints for this? (The patient also has chronic sinusitis with yellow discharge which has responded well to treatment) |

If you can give some more details as for your differential diagnosis this would help. I would suggest checking again his blood for thyroid problems, as this symptom is quite rife in these cases.
Contributing to his sinusitis problem, I would consider his Yang Ming energy system as the possible cause for his eye problem. Thus, using Li-4/ Li-11/ B-2/ St-1 or 2/ St-3/ St-36/ 43/44 could dredge the extra heat from both his sinuses and eyes altogether.

Thankyou for that. I will use some of those point combinations. I wouldnt have thought of using some of the distal points on the Yangming meridian. Acupuncture is not really my forte, Im a better herbalist. I am trying to apply myself a bit more diligently to becoming a better acupuncturist. Ive had some very good teachers so I have no excuse really. The doctor who supervised my clinical practice in China told me (in what he thought was the nicest possible way) that I would never be a really good acupuncturist as I could not read some of the classical literature texts as they had not been translated into english. He said that if I tried hard I could be OK at it. Hah! |
