Hi, I am a yoga teacher and I wonder if anyone has any ideas of how upside down poses would affect the meridians. Would they increase energy flow in meridians that normally flow up? Does gravity affect energy flow in the meridians? I am guessing that a pose like headstand puts pressure on the crown, but what about poses like hand stand or forearm stand where the head is not pressing into the floor?
Also any opinions on how contracting a muscle along a meridian line affects the meridian? And what about stretching muscles that a meridian runs along?
Thank you in advance for any thoughts

Hi Neil. I don't recall reading anything relating to your question in the past. My personal view is that various postures, including headstand, do not affect the energy flow, as Qi is not substance and therefore is not affected by gravity. Yet, we know that Qi moves the blood and blood is nicknamed the mother of Qi. Blood is definitely affected by gravity, hence by headstand, or other forced postures. If the blood is affected, it is obvious that it also puts extra strain on Qi, excercising it more vigorously, trying to keep the blood in the appropriate direction. I guess then, that you might say that these Yoga postures, excercise both Qi and blood.
