My son, who is almost 4 months old got an infection of the kidneys (Pyelonefrit)
He had fever for 1 ½ week, blood in the urine and later on pus.

It all started when we found blood in the urine 1 sept and he had fever (39) so we went to the hospital. He got antibiotics but 1-2 days later the fever got worse and so did his general state. He cried when touched and was afraid of changes (as sounds, light etc) His urination became very painful.
He got higher doses of paracetamol and slowly the fever went down to 38,7-39.
We were sent home but got back 3 days when the fever didnt get better. They gave him another kind of antibiotics, the first doses intravenous.
Still the fever went down very slowly, remaining over 38,4 for several days, but his general state was good.
He ate very often (i breastfeed him)
He still had pus coming out of the urethra days after the second antibiotic treatment started.

The first exams they have done shows some deformation of the right kidney. It has a strange shape and it could be 2 kidneys.

Since the antibiotics he has stomach ache, more on the afternoon and at night and it sometimes seems to come as cramps. He now pees even more then before, and he already peed alot.
He has always been slightly puffy and pale under the eyes. He grows extremly fast (he weighs 9 kgs now, was born 4200)
Do you have any advice? If you have any questions about him i will be happy to answer them.
Best regards Vildi

Sorry to hear about the condition of your baby. Four months old is not too young for mild acupuncture. I think that baby acupuncture, alongside conventional medicine in this case, can yield much better results than western medicine alone. It could prove dramatically beneficial both in the symptomatic aspect as well as the urinary system functioning in general. You may need to find a very experienced Chinese Dr. for this task, I hope you can find one in your area.

Hi Dr. halevi,
I started treating a new patient that has interstitial cystitis.
Also recurrent kidney and bladder infections.
Her tongue is with greasy yellow coating.
Right now she does not have any infection as she checked with the doctor. Just finished a course of antibiotics.
She also has kidney yang deficiency signs: gets cold easily.
The points I did were Sp9, yintang, Sp6, ren 3.
I am not sure what formula to give her.
wu Lin san would be one for my options.

Hi Yuliya, can't help you with the herbal prescription without checking her myself. However, the antibiotics may have eliminated the micro-organism activity for a while, causing a remission. Still, you need to eliminate the damp heat condition so that the bacteria will not flourish again. The points you have chosen are OK. I would add B-23, B-28, B-39-40 and St-28. All in dispersion. Use this 3 times a week until you can notice change in her tongue and pulse. Then, instruct her how to live and eat properly so that the damp heat condition will not recur. If you think that there might be also a liver channel pathogenesis use also Liv-8 in dispersion.
